Inspired by a lot of spare time and a new sewing machine I decided I needed to make something. With little to no previous experience I set about drawing up my own pattern, choosing an appropriate fabric (a red corduroy) and sewing this crustacean creation. My Furlough-bster.
I have also been making Furlough Frogs and sending them to friends as lockdown companions.
An instant sting you gave me
Kissing me straight away
A broken collarbone forthwith
But how is it you stay?
What drew us both together?
Perhaps it was only this
A silly nurse gave all her time
And him only mindful of his
You asked me for emotion
I gave it to you in heaps
How it was I didn’t see
You weren’t playing for keeps
Suddenly I’m vulnerable
Floundering at your feet
A feeling inescapable
A lion and you my meat
You hang like a scotch mist on my mind
I wanted a love you couldn’t find
You pulled away but you had stuck
How far into my veins you had snuck
Where was your courage
That I could clearly see?
A massive realisation
When it didn’t apply to me
Your words though true left me raw
How to make a heart thaw?
Compliments to me you’d bless
You’ve left me in such a mess
A great effort this will be
To give up on you and me
You’ve left my world almost stark
The bite was worse than the bark
Less lonely now than with you
Friends I couldn’t see coming through
Another one I just don’t want
